Whether your a beginner or an avid runner, running is a great form of exercise that has many health benefits, not only does it help to reduce the risk of chronic illness; heart disease, stroke, cancer and type 2 diabetes.

Running can also improve:

  • Cardiovascular system
  • Muscle and bone health

Anyone can run there's no limit on age or ability, it's a free and easy form of physical activity! All you need to get started is a pair of trainers and sports clothes

You can choose the time, pace and distance to suit your lifestyle

Running doesn't always have to be competitive but you may get hooked once you start

Couch to 5K

Couch to 5K is a great FREE training app to get you started on your running journey

Our community Couch to 5k programme will include tips to help you run more efficiently and effortlessly, it is designed to progress gradually every week to get you to that 5K (with additional homework). This 10 week program is available to everyone, whether you've never run before or just want to get more active.

It will include a weekly group session led by a qualified run leader along with help, support, tips and advice throughout the week for your other individual runs. The finale will include a group Parkrun with the support of your run leader

Two Couch to 5k groups are available:

- Tuesday 26th July - 27th September 2022, 6-7pm, starting from South Charnwood Leisure Centre, Syston

- Tuesday 2nd August - 4th October 2022, 12pm-1pm, starting from Southfields Park, Loughborough

The course is FREE to attend but this does involve signing up to the full 10-week course, you cannot join part way through.

Parkrun

Dishley parkrun:

The weekly Dishley parkrun in Loughborough is a FREE 5km timed run for people of all ages.

The event takes place every Saturday at 9am at Loughborough Rugby Club, Derby Road Playing Fields, Dishley, Loughborough, LE11 5FJ. To see the full course, head to the Dishley parkrun website for more details.

It is free to join, but you must register before your first run. After that, you won't need to register again. Don't forget to bring a printed copy of your barcode as you won't receive a time for you run if you forget it.

The run is for your own enjoyment, so you can be as fast or as competitive as you like.

The event is entirely organised by volunteers - email dishleyloughboroughhelpers@parkrun.com to help.

Watermead parkrun:

The event takes place every Saturday at 9am at Watermead County Park, North Entrance, Wanlip Rd, Syston, LE7 1PD.

As with the Dishley parkrun, it is free to join, but you must register before your first run. After that, you won't need to register again. Don't forget to bring a printed copy of your barcode as you won't receive a time for you run if you forget it.
